Costs & health insurance
Who pays for what, and when you receive an invoice. 7 questions
Is Spitex Medimex recognised by my health insurer?
Yes. We are recognised by all Swiss health insurers. All services covered by health insurance can be billed in accordance with the tariff agreement.
What is the difference between private and public Spitex?
When it comes to costs, there is no difference with us: our private Spitex costs the same as a public Spitex. We are recognised by all Swiss health insurers, and all services covered by health insurance are billed in accordance with the tariff agreement.
Public Spitex organisations usually work on behalf of their municipality. The nursing services covered by basic health insurance – needs assessment and advice, treatment care and basic care – are the same for all recognised Spitex organisations.
Which services does health insurance cover?
Health insurers pay for nursing and support measures, provided they are recognised by the insurers. Under basic insurance, these are the nursing services defined by the Health Insurance Act (KVG): needs assessment and advice, examinations and treatment (treatment care) and basic care.
Treatment care must be prescribed by a doctor. Since 1 July 2024, needs assessment, advice and basic care can also be provided without a doctor’s prescription – on the basis of a nursing needs assessment.
Household services are paid by supplementary insurance under certain conditions. You will find the terms in your supplementary insurance policy.
Do I need a doctor’s prescription for Spitex?
Treatment care – for example injections, dressings or medication management – requires a doctor’s prescription. It is issued by your doctor.
Since 1 July 2024, needs assessment, advice and basic care can also be provided without a doctor’s prescription – on the basis of a nursing needs assessment. Acute and transitional care after a hospital stay is prescribed in hospital.
We are happy to work out with you what is needed in your situation.
Who pays for help around the home?
Household services are paid by supplementary insurance under certain conditions. You will find the terms in your supplementary insurance policy.
Our household services – such as cleaning and shopping – can be used on a doctor’s prescription in combination with nursing care.
Which services do I have to pay for myself?
All services that are not covered by insurance. Before that happens, we discuss everything with you in advance: we only take on services that are not recognised by health insurance after prior agreement with everyone involved.
For services outside the Health Insurance Act, we do not invoice any travel charges or other handling fees.
For nursing services covered by basic insurance, you pay a patient contribution in addition to your deductible (franchise) and co-payment (Selbstbehalt); children and young people under 18 are exempt. The amount is set by the canton – you will find it on our prices page.
When will I be invoiced?
We invoice once a month – in the second half of the month at the latest, always for the previous month.
Organisation & visits
From the first call to the agreed visit. 6 questions
How do I register myself or a relative?
Call us on 044 500 49 27 or send us your request online – for yourself or for someone close to you.
We assess your needs and advise you, taking your daily habits into account from the very first consultation. Care can start within 24 hours.
How quickly can care start?
Within 24 hours. Call us on 044 500 49 27 – we will discuss the next steps with you.
At what times are you available?
With specially qualified staff, Spitex Medimex provides professional care around the clock – from Monday to Sunday (7 × 24 hours).
Can agreed visit times be kept?
We do our best to keep the visit times agreed with you. If this is not possible for unforeseen reasons, we need some leeway of plus or minus 30 minutes. If we cannot keep to this time window either, we will let you know by phone.
Will I always be cared for by the same person?
We try to send the same carers to the same place whenever possible. Because our staff work part-time and are sometimes away on holiday, at training or ill, this is not always possible.
If you only need help around the home at regular intervals, planning for the same staff member is usually feasible.
What if something else comes up at short notice at the time of a visit?
Please contact our scheduling team as soon as possible so that we can discuss the situation. We will try to find a solution.
As a rule, a planned visit must be cancelled or rescheduled 24 hours in advance. In exceptional cases, special arrangements can be made. Visits that are not cancelled will be charged.
