Frequently asked questions
Questions about our services
What services does Spitex offer?
Spitex Medimex offers basic care, treatment care, psychiatric care, companionship, household services, acute and transitional care, palliative care and – on request – a presence over 12 or 24 hours. Everything always starts with a needs assessment and advice in your home.
Which Spitex services does health insurance cover?
Basic health insurance covers nursing care under the Health Insurance Act (KVG): needs assessment and advice, examinations and treatment (treatment care) and basic care. You pay your deductible (franchise), your co-payment (Selbstbehalt) and a patient contribution, the amount of which is set by your canton.
Household services are paid by supplementary insurance under certain conditions.
What is the difference between basic care and treatment care?
Basic care is support with everyday activities – such as personal hygiene, dressing and undressing, eating and drinking, or moving about. Treatment care covers medical measures such as injections, dressings, wound care or medication management.
Treatment care requires a doctor’s prescription; since 1 July 2024, basic care no longer necessarily does.
Do I need a doctor’s prescription for Spitex?
That depends on the service. Treatment care requires a doctor’s prescription. Since 1 July 2024, needs assessment, advice and basic care may also be provided without a doctor’s order – on the basis of a needs assessment by a qualified nurse. Acute and transitional care is prescribed in hospital.
