Who it is for

When your mind needs support.

A mental illness affects every part of everyday life – and often the whole family too. Psychiatric Spitex supports you where your life takes place: at home.

  • With a mental illness

When a mental illness makes everyday life hard – for a while or over a longer period.

  • After a clinic stay

When you want to find your feet again at home after inpatient treatment.

  • For more stability day to day

When your daily routine, the household or social contacts are difficult and you want to regain confidence step by step.

  • For relatives

When you are worried about someone close to you. We involve relatives – in the way the person concerned wishes.

What it includes

Training and conversations – in the midst of life.

Our psychiatric nursing includes training and conversations. We work closely with everyone involved – with you, your relatives and your doctor – to achieve the best possible treatment outcome.

What psychiatric nursing can include, for example:

  • Conversations that ease the burden and offer guidance
  • Working out and practising a daily structure that suits you
  • Practising strategies for coping with anxiety, tension or distressing thoughts
  • Encouraging social contacts in a targeted way
  • Support in crisis situations
  • Preparing medication and supporting you in taking it – on a doctor’s prescription

We carefully discuss with you at the start which measures make sense – and adapt them as we go.

The first step is a conversation – calm and confidential.

  2. Getting to know you and assessment

We get to know you and your situation and work out together what support will help.

  3. Coordination with everyone involved

We coordinate with your doctor – and, if you wish, with your relatives. Treatment measures require a doctor’s prescription.

  4. Care starts within 24 hours

We take over your care within 24 hours – with a small, stable team.

You pay part of the nursing costs yourself – up to a fixed maximum per day. The amount is set by your canton. Children and young people under 18 pay no patient contribution in the cantons of Zurich, Aargau and Schwyz.
Deductible (franchise)
The amount you pay yourself each calendar year before basic insurance starts covering costs. You chose the amount with your health insurer.
Co-payment (Selbstbehalt)
Once you have paid your deductible, you contribute 10 per cent of any further costs – up to an annual maximum.
Residual financing
Whatever is not covered by health insurance and the patient contribution is paid by the public sector – depending on the canton, by your municipality of residence or by the canton.

Frequently asked questions

Questions about psychiatric Spitex

All questions and answers

What does psychiatric Spitex do?

Psychiatric Spitex supports people with mental health conditions at home – with conversations, training in everyday life and help through difficult phases. To do so, we work closely with everyone involved to achieve the best possible treatment outcome.

Does health insurance cover psychiatric home care?

Yes. Psychiatric nursing is a benefit of basic health insurance, and we are recognised by all Swiss health insurers. You pay your canton’s patient contribution as well as your deductible (franchise) and co-payment (Selbstbehalt).

Do I need a doctor’s prescription for psychiatric Spitex?

For treatment measures, yes. Since 1 July 2024, needs assessment, advice and basic care measures are also possible without a doctor’s order. We will discuss with you what applies in your situation.

How quickly can psychiatric home care start?

We take over your care within 24 hours. Call us on 044 500 49 27 – we will discuss the next steps with you.

Will I always be cared for by the same person?

We try to send the same carers to the same place whenever possible. Because our staff work part-time and are sometimes away on holiday, at training or ill, this is not always possible.

If you only need help around the home at regular intervals, planning for the same staff member is usually feasible.

At what times are you available?

With specially qualified staff, Spitex Medimex provides professional care around the clock – from Monday to Sunday (7 × 24 hours).
